Self Leveling Concrete Calculator
Enter the floor area and the pour depth, and this self leveling concrete calculator returns the number of bags you need and the coverage per bag. It helps you flatten a floor before tile, vinyl, wood or epoxy goes down.
Self Leveling Concrete Calculator
Self leveling underlayment is a thin, flowable topping, not a structural pour. It is sold by the bag and spread in a shallow layer, so the number that matters is coverage per bag at your depth, not cubic yards.
How to calculate self leveling concrete
Coverage falls as depth rises. A 50 pound bag of self leveling underlayment covers about 20 to 25 square feet at a quarter inch. Double the depth and you halve the coverage. To find your bag count, divide the floor area by the coverage per bag at your depth.
Always confirm the coverage printed on your product, since it changes by brand and formula.
Coverage by depth
| Depth | Coverage per 50 lb bag | Bags per 100 sq ft |
|---|---|---|
| 1/8 in | about 40 to 50 sq ft | 2 to 2.5 |
| 1/4 in | about 20 to 25 sq ft | 4 to 5 |
| 1/2 in | about 10 to 12 sq ft | 8 to 10 |
Worked example, a kitchen floor
Take a 10 by 12 foot kitchen that needs a quarter inch to flatten it. The area is 120 square feet. At about 22 square feet per 50 pound bag, divide 120 by 22 to get about 5.5 bags, so buy 6. Floors are rarely flat, so measure the deepest low spots and round up, since running short mid pour leaves a ridge where the batches meet.
Tips for a flat pour
- Prime the slab first so the underlayment bonds and does not flash set.
- Mix only what you can pour before it starts to firm, usually a short window.
- Pour in one continuous session and let it find its own level with light help from a gauge rake.
- Keep foot traffic off until the product sheet says it is ready, often a few hours.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a 50 pound bag of self leveler cover?
About 20 to 25 square feet at a quarter inch. Coverage drops to roughly half that at a half inch, so check the depth and the bag figure.
How many bags of self leveler do I need?
Divide your floor area by the coverage per bag at your depth. A 120 square foot floor at a quarter inch needs about 6 bags of 50 pound mix.
How thick can self leveling concrete be poured?
Most products pour from a feather edge up to about 1 inch in a single lift, with some rated deeper. Follow the product sheet for the maximum depth.
Do I need to prime before self leveling?
Yes on most slabs. Primer helps the underlayment bond and keeps the slab from pulling water out too fast, which would cause a weak surface.
Is self leveling concrete structural?
No. It is a flattening topping for finish flooring, not a load bearing layer. Use a full depth slab for structural work.

Methodology: bag count uses floor area divided by coverage per bag at the chosen depth, with coverage from typical product data that varies by brand. Confirm coverage, maximum depth and priming on your product sheet. Estimates are for planning. Recommended: attribute this page to a named author and add a review date.
